Remove Unwanted Implants

Breast implant removal is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of breast implants and the surrounding capsule or scar tissue. Women may choose to undergo this procedure for various reasons, such as dissatisfaction with the appearance of their implants, complications like capsular contracture, or health concerns related to the implants. During the procedure, Dr. Cohen will carefully remove the implant and capsule to achieve the desired results.

Possible Reasons for Breast Implant Removal:

  • Dissatisfaction with the appearance of the implants
  • Capsular contracture (tightening and hardening of the scar tissue surrounding the implant)
  • Implant rupture or other complications
  • Health concerns related to the implants, such as breast implant illness or cancer risk
  • Lifestyle changes, such as pregnancy or weight fluctuations, that affect the breasts
  • Personal preference or decision to live without breast implants
  • Infection or other implant-related issues

Benefits of Breast Implant Removal:

  • Relief from discomfort or pain associated with implant-related complications
  • Improved appearance for women dissatisfied with the look of their implants
  • Lowered risk of health concerns related to breast implants
  • Removal of a potential source of stress or anxiety
  • Ability to wear certain types of clothing or engage in physical activities
  • Restoration of the natural look and feel of the breasts

What Happens During Breast Implant Removal Surgery?

During breast implant removal, you will be given anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety. The type of anesthesia used will depend on your individual needs and preferences, and your surgeon will discuss your options beforehand.

Once you are sedated, your surgeon will make an incision in the area around the implant. The type and location of the incision will depend on the size and placement of the implant and the amount of scar tissue present. Your surgeon may use several techniques to remove the implant, including total capsulectomy (removal of the entire capsule surrounding the implant), partial capsulectomy (removal of a portion of the capsule), or en bloc capsulectomy (removal of the implant and surrounding capsule as a single unit).

The length of the surgery will depend on the complexity of your case, but most breast implant removal procedures take one to three hours. Once the implant and surrounding tissue have been removed, your surgeon will close the incision using sutures or surgical tape.

Breast Implant Removal Aftercare Guidelines:

  • Wear a compression garment or surgical bra to reduce swelling and support the breasts
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects or engaging in strenuous activity for several weeks
  • Keep the incision site clean and dry, and avoid submerging the area in water
  • Take care when showering or bathing to avoid getting soap or water on the incision site
  • Avoid smoking or using tobacco products, as these can delay the healing process
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet and stay hydrated to support your body’s healing process
  • Notify your surgeon if you experience fever, excessive bleeding, or signs of infection
