Awaken & Revitalize
Your Eyes

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that can restore the youthful appearance of your eyes by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This surgery can address various issues, including drooping eyelids, puffiness, and wrinkles, which can give off a tired or negative impression. By rejuvenating the eye area, eyelid surgery can help you look more awake, refreshed, and youthful.

Eyelid Surgery Corrects:

  • Excess skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelids
  • Puffiness or bags under the eyes
  • Sagging or drooping of the upper eyelids
  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Dark circles under the eyes that cannot be improved with non-surgical treatments
  • Vision obstruction caused by sagging or overhanging upper eyelid skin
  • Asymmetry between the two eyes
  • A tired or angry expression caused by the appearance of the eyes

What Happens During Eyelid Surgery?

During eyelid surgery, you will receive anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. The type of anesthesia used will depend on your individual needs and preferences and may include local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

The surgery typically involves two main components: upper blepharoplasty and/or lower blepharoplasty. During upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Cohen will make an incision in the natural crease of your upper eyelid and remove any excess skin, fat, or muscle. This can reduce drooping and sagging of the upper eyelid and create a more youthful and alert appearance.

During lower blepharoplasty, Dr. Cohen will make an incision inside your lower eyelid (transconjunctival blepharoplasty) or just below your lower lash line (external lower blepharoplasty). He will remove or redistribute excess fat, skin, or muscle that is causing puffiness or bags under your eyes, creating a smoother appearance.

The duration of the surgery will depend on the extent of the procedure and the type of surgery, but it typically takes one to three hours to complete. After the procedure, you can expect some swelling and bruising, but this will typically subside within a few days to a week.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery:

  • A more youthful and refreshed appearance
  • Improved self-confidence and self-esteem

  • Improved vision and increased peripheral vision in some cases
  • Enhanced facial symmetry and balance
  • A more alert and awake expression
  • Long-lasting results that can improve your appearance for years to come

Eyelid Surgery Aftercare Guidelines:

  • Apply ice packs to your eyes for 10-20 minutes at a time several times a day
  • Keep your head elevated for the first few days after surgery to reduce swelling
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or applying any pressure to the surgical area
  • Use prescribed eye drops or ointments to prevent infection and promote healing
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses for at least two weeks after surgery
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that could increase blood flow to the eyes
  • Take pain medications as prescribed to manage any discomfort or pain
  • Avoid smoking, which can slow down the healing process and increase complications
